Accidents of Nature by Harriet McBryde Johnson

Jean is 17 and has cerebral palsy.  She goes to a camp for disabled people, Camp Courage.  When she arrives for the first time she meets Sara.  Sara has gone to Camp Courage for 8 years and knows every trick.  Throughout the camp Jean learns what it means to be disabled and her happy life changes. She realises that “normal” people don’t understand people like her.

Jean is the main character.  She is 17 and is wheelchair bound with cerebral palsy.  She is the star of her small hometown and goes to a mainstream school.  She goes to Camp Courage thinking she is different from the norms.  Sara is a girl angry with the world.  She has an answer for everything. She is also very devilish.

This book will open your mind towards disabled people.  It will make you laugh, cry and think again.  You must read it.  The author has created comical, serious and beloved characters.  Read it, you’ll know what I mean.
